SUCCESSES IN THE UK BLACK COMMUNITY

2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the birth of the ‘Windrush Nation’ – the modern UK Black community, encompassing the pioneers and all future generations, and to mark the occasion Reach Society and Life Radio UK have joined forces on a couple of initiatives, starting with ‘Milestones’.

Milestones is a series of radio programmes highlighting the contributions made in the UK Black Community from 1948.

The series is hosted by Mike Johnson and Dr. Dwain Neil OBE, who are joined by some esteemed guests to review the achievements.

First, there is Dr Keith Davidson, educator and CEO of KAD Publications and he is joined by Angela Clarke CEO of RAFFA; then there is Rudi Page who was closely connected with the Dyke & Dryden story.

In addition, we have Lord Herman Ouseley, the man who started the “Kick It Out” campaign in football during his time as the Executive Chairman of The Commission for Racial Equality, and finally, Professor Sir Geoff Palmer, Chancellor of Heriot Watt University.

In series two of Milestones -The Windrush Nation, we have expanded the list of contributors to include those with a Caribbean, African, and UK dual heritage background. Africa is included, because that’s where the journey began.

The second initiative of the Windrush Nation Heritage is the commissioning of an anthem, “Windrush Nation” which is designed to be sung whenever we gather to recognize and celebrate achievements in the Windrush Nation.
